#66 – OUTDOOR OASIS
The Adventure – Building my own private oasis.
In 2007, I spent almost a week in Montreal attending the Montreal World Film Festival. A film I had worked on made it into the festival and I felt like I was on top of the world. We stayed in this beautiful home that had an incredible outdoor oasis. It was like a hidden retreat in the heart of the city. Private, decadent, lovely.
So when I found a place with it’s own private oasis in the heart of my city to call home (for the 38th time), I decided to turn it into something special.
It’s a work in progress, however.
There are vines everywhere. I have a decadent chandelier dangling down above an outdoor table. I have a tree and a pond. I have birds and mice and racoons and skunks and squirrels and neighbour cats that come to play.
I have outdoor dinners lighted by candles and little lights and a chandelier.
I have a covered patio and an outdoor deck.
And I built the deck and hung the chandelier. I wanted to create a place for all seasons – even with this rainy weather.
At nights, I sit out in the rain, listening to its meditative qualities.
Late at night, my lover and I spend time out under the stars.
I celebrate with friends.
I enjoy the morning sun on my deck, sipping my cuppa tea.
I use my private space, my oasis.
Like I said, it’s a work in progress.
There’s much to be done.
